How to make traffic exchanges work for you
First I would like to explain what a traffic exchange is and how a traffic
exchange works. Basically you agree to look at someone else’s web page in
exchange for having someone look at your page. The ratio of page views
you get to page views you view varies depending on the traffic exchange.
Most free traffic exchanges will show your page once for every two you view
or 2 to 1. There are others that may be 3 to 1 but those usually have
bonuses that will make up the difference if you surf a lot of page views.
Now that you have an understanding of how traffic exchanges work let us
think about how to make them work for you. Obviously most of the people
looking at your pages are doing so not because they want to see your page
but because they want you to view theirs. Most are also surfing more than
one exchange at a time as they are working primarily to build up credits for
their sites to be viewed.
Despite all of the above traffic exchanges can be used effectively if you
understand the above. First you have at most 5 seconds to get the surfers
attention. That is not likely to happen if you are promoting the average
affiliate page that the surfer has just seen 35 or more times in the last half
hour. Yes you can sell affiliate products and programs but it takes a lot of
hits and a bit of luck to get your page in front of the right person.
The toughest thing to do is to catch the average surfer’s attention and as
traffic exchanges tend to be more visual than textual you should use some
sort of eye catching graphic. The second thing is to keep it. Therefore your
text should be short and to the point and most important of all - Ask them
to take an action. (Example - Click here, sign up here, etc.). If you are
trying to get them to sign up to an auto responder offer them something for
doing it. Everybody loves free.
If you promote this way your response will be much better because the
viewer can then read your long sales page or auto responder series at their
leisure once they are done getting the page views they want and you can
actually have their full attention.
